2017 – A Year In Clothing

2017 has been and gone and a new year is suddenly upon us. Last year has been full of many ups and downs for me. I started my Masters degree at Northumbria, I have met people who will change my life forever and I have left some people behind. 2017 was the year where I really tried to figure myself out, I focused on my weight loss, education and loving myself.

I have come out of 2017 a much more positive person and let’s hope 2018 brings amazing things.

The one thing that has changed over the last couple of years is my style. I have always been very much into my fashion from a young age, I always wanted to look different and quirky. I have said goodbye to vintage and preppy clothing and my style has really come in on its own. I feel happy and confident.

Here is a quick look at some of my favourite looks over 2017.

Spring 2018 – My Picks

The remainder of snow still lies on the ground and the January blues are still in full force. But what better way to get you excited for the smell of freshly cut grass, cute baby lambs, and Daffodils than hitting the high-street shops to check the Spring 2018 fashion?

It may not be time to vacuum pack those cosy knits, but Spring 2018 is just around the corner and it might be the most stylish one yet.

Say goodbye to over-done florals of Springs past, 2018 is all about stripes, bold colours, and sporty chic.

Here are some of my top High-Street Spring 2018 must have styles:

  1. TOPSHOP – Yellow Striped Long Sleeve Crew

This year’s Spring is all about bold colours with a laid-back feel. This look could be dressed down with a pair of skinny jeans. Or dress it up with an A-line denim skirt, sock boots, and a stylish beret.

It is no wonder this piece has almost sold out online at Topshop. Get yours here for only £18.

2. ASOS – Double O Waist Belt

If you have not seen the Gucci ‘Double G’ belt plastered all over your Instagram, then you must live under a rock. Do not want to pay £270 for a belt? Neither do I. ASOS do a belt very similar, you can get the Gucci look without the insane price tag. You can get an even a cheaper ‘Double O’ belt at Primark for just £4!

Team with jeans and a T-shirt tucked in for a casual look or team with a vibrant dress for a dressier feel. Get yours for only £10 Here.

3. River Island – Black & White Polka Dot Playsuit

Spring 2018 is not just about the bolds because black and white never go out of fashion. Another pattern that has been making quite an appearance on the high street this Spring is the polka dot.

Get this in-style Playsuit here for £50

4. New Look – Red Patent Boots

I have been obsessed with red boots for a while and I am happy to see this style is going strong in the Spring.

Bold statement boots can make an outfit go from BLEH to YAY in seconds. It is time to say goodbye to the metallic boot because everyone is loving the bold boot.

Get these colourful beauties here for £29.99

5.  ASOS – Statement Double Drop Tortoiseshell Earrings

I have been a fan of simple, dainty and understated jewelry for a long time. I have been experimenting with statement earrings as I have a lot of them in the high-street shops lately.  Big and bold earrings can really make an outfit pop, from Tortoiseshell to Tassel earrings the statement earring is in, but who knows, will it be here to stay?

Get your statement earrings here for £8

6. TOPSHOP – Tee & Cake Heart Sketch Face T-Shirt

Remember the Gucci look-a-like ‘Merci’ T-Shirt by Topshop everyone had last Summer? This T-Shirt is this seasons new must have Instagram top by Topshop. This must have T-Shirt gives all the vibes of popular designer Commes Des Garcons with a bargain price.

Wear this with some colourful athletic style trousers or try tucked in jeans with a bold jacket as a head turner.

You can buy this must have Spring 2018 Tee here for £18

So, that is my Spring 2018 favourite list. Now I need to get my next student loan installment so I can get spending.

Thank you for reading and happy shopping.

Edinburgh | Travel | Video

scot

Last weekend I went to visit my best and childhood friend Claudia. She just so happened to live in Edinburgh, Scotland and will be soon moving to Glasgow. I knew this would probably be the last time I visit Edinburgh for a long time.

People who know me, know I am always in Edinburgh. It’s probably my favourite city in the UK. Why you ask? It’s full of wonderful people, amazing history, fantastic nightlife, beautiful culture and it’s just the right size.

I decided to make a 24 hour video, this style of vlog is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. So, what better way than vlogging a video about my favourite city, with my favourite person?

Sit back, relax and enjoy the view. x

Life | Moving To London

Well if you have been paying attention you would know I moved to London last year. It was on of the scariest and exciting moments of my life. I recently graduated from university, and I decided I wanted a job in London. I moved down South with my boyfriend, Josh, where we lived together with two friends.

BeccaBLC London

One year later and I have moved back to my home town, and I am living back in my family home – yay! I have been getting a lost of questions like – why I moved back to London? Why I moved there in the first place? and what is was like living in London? So, what better way that making a video about it? I created this video not just for me, but for those thinking about making the big move to London.

I really hope this video helps people, and I really wanted to give my honest opinion and advice. London can be a scary place, so it’s best you weigh up all the options. Oh, and be prepared money wise.

Sit back and enjoy xBecca Sig

Travel | Fashion | New York | What I wore

As you can see in my previous post, New York was an amazing experience. Looking back at my outfits is just making me miss New York more and more. Especially with the grim, rainy weather back in London, it was nice to finally get some summer gear on and free my legs of tights. With it officially being summer in the UK, it may be time to get the holiday clothes out on show.

So here is what I wore in NY:

20160603_160326(2)
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love a good pinafore/dungaree dress, so it was inevitable I was going to bring one along to NY. I love this look, it’s so easy to pull off and can easily be dressed up with a big, black hat and some nice, high, chunky-healed boots. I am a little bit in love with stripes at the minute, as it can really make a simple outfit stand out. I teamed this outfit with a red bag and red lipstick to really make the whole piece pop, and I do love a bit of red to make me stand out.

My next look was this pretty, floral dress by ASOS. I saved this dress especially for New York and it was perfect for the weather. I wore this dress to go to a Broadway show and then to a roof-top bar. The floaty sleeves, high neck and pattern clashes, really make the dress. I teamed this dress with my all-time favourite 70s style boots from Topshop (that I got my cheeky 60% staff uniform discount off). You can’t see in the photographs but they have a beautiful tortoiseshell effect on the heel, which really makes them unusual and eye-catching.

I really like this outfit, I am a massive fan of red. I was always wary of red because of being a natural ginger, but who knew, red really looks good on a ginger! At first I felt, self conscious in this dress because I never wear low neck lines. I have quite large chest that I like to keep hidden, but I plucked up the courage and bought this plunging neck-line wrap dress – and  boy I am glad I did! It was a rubbish day weather wise in New York, so I opted for tights and my all-time favourite denim jacket. I live in this jacket –  the Planet Hollywood logo on the front and back really make this jacket stand out from the others.

Polka dot dress: ASOS Denim Jacket: Vintage Shop Tote Bag: Lush

20160604_155633(2)20160604_160403(2) Last but not least, my Topshop ensemble. I wore this outfit because I knew it was going to be a long, activity-filled day . Both the off-the-shoulder top and ripped Lucas jeans are from Topshop. I am really loving the off the shoulder look, it’s great for showing a little bit of skin when you want to. However in my case, I got some pretty bad sun burn when wearing this top… I am also loving Topshop’s Lucas jeans – these are my second pair. They are mom/boyfriend style without being too baggy. I really recommend the black pair, I never take them off!

So there you go, my NY style. I love sharing my outfits on Instagram too, so if you want have a look feel free. The link is on the right hand side of the homepage.

Thank you so much for reading.

Travel | New York City | What I did

20160606_115322

I finally did it. I have dreamed about the day I would go to New York; I begged my Mum at the age of 16, 18 and 21 to go, but nothing ever surfaced. I have been obsessed with the New Yorker’s life style ever since I can remember; I think Gossip Girl helped build this New York fantasy in my mind. The shopping, the fashion, the buildings, the food and the people has always been a dream for me. June 2016 was the year that I finally followed my dream…

We stayed at the Citizen M hotel which was in the heart of the city; it was just around the corner from times square. The hotel was amazing, the walls were covered in books, tongue-in-cheek quotes and modern technology. Our whole room was controlled by an iPad from mood lighting, to the blinds and to the TV. Everything about the hotel was fantastic, but my most favourite thing about it was the Sky Bar. A bar on the roof top with amazing views of Manhattan and not to mention the fabulous cocktails – which I had way too many of.

I surprised myself that I didn’t really go shopping in New York, the fashion capital of the world…and I didn’t buy much. What is wrong with me? But the truth is, I just didn’t have time. I was too busy exploring everything the city had to offer. Although, I did make the time on my last full day to pop into Sephora and buy a Too Faced palette that I have been wanting after for a while – don’t worry a full review will be coming very soon. I did also treat myself to a Kanken backpack, which I am 100% totally and utterly in love with.

WHAT I DID:

Day 1 was my favourite day, we ended up walking 30,000 steps, unbelievable I know right? We went to a flea market in the Meat Packing District and I bought a exquisite vintage silver ring. We then went walking on the High Line, which was an old freight track turned into a park. This led us to the 9/11 memorial, which was a very moving  but it is something you just have to experience when in New York. We then continued our day by walking around Wall Street and then we got a ferry to Governor Island.

Not many people know about Governor Island but it was my favourite thing I did in New York. It only cost $2 to get the ferry over and took only 5 minutes to actually get there. Governor Island was an island that the old governors of New York lived at, which then became a base where the army and their families lived. It was then abandoned and sold back to New York for £1. It has been turned into a huge park and art hub. There are no cars on Governor Island, so you can rent a bike for $15, which was really fun. Me and Josh (my boyfriend) spent 4 hours on Governor Island – we rode bikes, sunbathed and took in the amazing views of the Manhattan sky line. It really is a must do in New York!

One of my favourite areas in Manhattan was SoHo, a very quirky and young area full of street food, vintage shops and good people. Eileen’s Special Cheesecake was a must for me to go to, because anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with cheesecake, and New York you did not disappoint! Another highlight was walking over the Brooklyn bridge: even though I am afraid of heights, it was something I was not going to miss. Brooklyn was a great area, the pizza there was one of the best I have ever had.

20160605_121158(2)

I had such a magical and amazing time in New York, I really did not want to leave. It was my all-time favourite holiday and I am glad I got to experience it. See you next time New York!

Dress: Moddolly

Welcome to my first ever post on my brand new blog!

Ok, so this blog has taken me a few months to get up and running but I wanted to make sure it was perfect before going live. So I’m very sorry for the wait people. Some of you may know that I moved from the North East to London in August 2015 – which was one of the biggest and scariest moments of my life. But along the way, I have met some amazing and fun people, as well as gained a lot of ideas and muses for my writing. BeccaBLC will be a place for fashion, beauty, lifestyle and my London adventures. I want to dip in the world of vlogging, so keep your eyes peeled for some videos coming very soon! I hope you guys enjoy reading BeccaBLC as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Lipstick: Rimmel London by Kate Moss

This dress is from Moddolly –  a tan, cord smock style dress that I am just in love with. I got this dress specifically for an Autumn style, but as Spring approaches this little number is perfect for this season too. Swap boots for some cute, tan brogues or loafers, then maybe swap tights for some little socks. I have found this Spring that pastels are so last year, it’s all about the bold and bright, not to mention mustards and oranges being big Spring 2016.

Loafers: New Look

Moddolly are a lovely, small business that hand-make all of their own clothing and will go the extra mile to make sure you are 100% a happy customer – and that is why I love them! I have a few pieces of Moddolly and each season from them never seems to disappoint. Right now, they have an amazing offer of BUY ONE GET ONE FREE. Pick a smock or pinafore and get a choice of your own absolutely free! You’re welcome.
